Caring for someone with dementia can be challenging, and keeping them safe is always a top priority. Despite everyone’s best efforts, there may be times when a loved one goes missing or becomes lost.
This can be incredibly stressful for those around them, and in that moment it can be difficult to recall all the important information that might help in finding them quickly.
The Herbert Protocol has been designed to help with exactly this. It’s a simple form that allows you to record key information about a person in advance, which can then be shared with the police if they are reported missing. Having this information ready to hand can help the police begin their search as quickly as possible.
They ask that you complete as much of the form as possible, but say that you shouldn’t worry about answering every question. They have also suggested giving copies of the form to family members, friends and neighbours.
